The movie screening on Thursday was quite impressive.  There were a lot 
of great examples of what is or can be done on both personal and 
societal levels.

The one that really got my attention was the parking lot item.  I had 
never seen that one.  The parking lots were designed with rows separated 
by islands, covered with canopies clad with solar panels.  Imagine if 
all those eyesore, huge lots our economic enterprises are so infamous 
for, were actually doing something productive.

Side benefits would be pedestrian walkways with shade, rain shelter and 
an esthetic improvement.  (They might even stop all those people from 
driving their cars diagonally across the lot.)

It seems like an item to promote among city and county authorities as an 
environmentally responsible prerequisite to any construction proposal 
that included parking lots.  It could also be promoted among present 
parking lot owners, as a way to demonstrate their concern for the 
environment, by upgrading their properties.
